Kindness by Kodavatiganti KutumbaraTelugu original by Kodavatiganti Kutumbarao, in `kaviraattu' anthology, Yuva Book Depot, Madras, 1946. Translated and posted with permission by Ananda Kishore.
A discussion on non-violence came up in the King's court. As a passionate argument broke out between two eloquent men, everyone else took a back seat and started watching the show. One of the speakers was a weakling, and yet he was arguing for violence; the other was a hefty person, but he couldn't win his argument against violence. As time went by, the audience got more supportive of the weakling. The hefty person's face reddened. He couldn't contain his anger. He jumped onto the weakling, strangled him, and shook him vigorously. The weakling breathed his last. Non-violence won. |
